BBSR Trail Guides
Before BBSR, sledding on the Tweedt property was mostly limited to the driveway when snow was present, and the main chute above and to the left of the house (now known as “Big Thunder”). There was a secondary run that went under the clothesline (now known as “Murder They Rode”).
But Brian & Heidi loved sledding so much, that they wanted to sled even if there wasn’t any snow. They began finding sleds and techniques that worked well on pine needles. This opened up a whole new world, as pine needle sledding was much more controllable, and thus you could sled different places that would be impossible to sled in the unforgiving snow.
Brian and Heidi Tweedt found many numerous runs off the main chutes and began naming them. The heyday of finding and naming runs occurred from around 1988 through 1994, during their junior high and high school years. And thus, these BBSR “maps” were released whenever a new run was added.
These Busted’ Buns Sled Rides trail guides helped sledders find the names of their favorite runs, as well as try new ones. And guests and friends often referred to the maps as they were sledding to try something new. Sometimes, they even found a new run.
The latest map was always posted in EL JAMAR, and a map was often hung on a clipboard that hung on a nail that was attached to a tree during active sled times.
Here are the maps, presented in REVERSE CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER.
And if you’re really interested, we’ve posted a some hand-drawn maps on their own page. Some of these pre-date the computer, and others were renderings that were used to help make the drawn-on-computer maps.
1994 Maps
1994 Map – Edition Three
This map was released for Winter 94 and included the “Rocks with Snow” logo which was later used on the BBSR t-shirt.
It also included the new snow only “Side Lot Sledding” area that was just opened for Winter 1994.
In order to allow those new runs to fit, the list of the names of the runs was moved to the second page.
1994 Map – Edition One
This map was the first 1994 map released.
With the expansion of the “Side Lot Sledding” area that was done in 1993, this trail guide shifted the map to the left to allow the “Side Lot Sledding” area to appear completely on the front page.
The list of runs was then switched to the lower-right hand side of the map.
1993 Map
This is the only edition of the 1993 Map.
The “Side Lot Sledding” area was expanded, so it was moved to the back of the map, as it did not fit.

1991 Map – Edition One
This is the first edition of the 1991 map. This new look was the result of the rough drafts of the “1990 – Edition Two Map” (see below).
This one had an error labeling run #33 twice. It was corrected in the second edition of the 1991 map.
1990 Maps
1990 Map – Edition Two (Drafts)
This second version of the 1990 map used a new program with much higher resolution to draw the map.
These are “works in progress” maps which allow you to see how the more modern maps were made. You can see how Brian was trying to get the words to fit on the map using a larger font, but it just didn’t fit too well.
It does not appear an official “1990 Map – Edition Two” was ever issued.
1990 Map – Edition One
This was the final of the “Old School” maps issued. It was taped together from various printed elements and then photocopied for distribution.
1989 Maps
1989 Map – Edition Three
This is the 3rd Edition of the 1989 Map.
Five runs were added. “Cabin Cruncher,” “T.OT.” which stands for “Tunnel of Trees,” possibly the most dangerous run, “Five Foot Fallout,” and “Thrill Hill.”
It included a “Blowup” of the Busted’ Breaks and Super Colosis area as many new runs were added to this area.
1989 Map – Edition Two
This was the 2nd Edition of the 1989 Map.
Five runs were added, including “The Ultimate,” “The Weaver,” “Red Ant,” “Weed Alley,” and “Falling Rock.”
